My issue with most cat fountains is how time consuming they are to take apart and clean. If you don’t do it every few days the inside gets disgusting.
That’s been the opposite with our Purrvana. Most of it goes straight in the dishwasher and the UV + filter means it doesn’t get that slimy buildup as fast. Takes a couple of minutes.
Not 100% certain but my cat had a bacterial infection last summer that put him in the ER for a week. When I finally took the filter apart it was filthy.
I bet you were using a plastic one. Stainless with UV sterilisation doesn’t seem to get the same slimy buildup in our experience.
We use our Purrvana stainless steel fountain on motion sensor mode. Our kittens think it’s a toy and one drinks straight from the spout. They’re on mostly wet and raw food so we’re not as worried about hydration, but they still use the Purrvana all the time.
They really do help, especially with cats that have bladder or kidney issues. Keeping them drinking can also help stop those problems from becoming chronic.
